During our fundraising campaign for the Rideau Vista playground, Joy and I with Nick and Austin would make rice krispie squares every Thursday to sell at lunch time. One particular day, the boys melted too many marshmellows when adding the rice krispies. The boys couldn't get the cereal mixed together properly, so asked for Joy's help. Joy had to keep adding more cereal to the melted marshmellows to get the mixture even. The more cereal Joy added, the stickier the mess she got into. The boys couldn't stop laughing at Joy, myself included - not to mention Joy's laughter. We ended up with a very large batch of rice krispie squares that day to sell. The quick thinking teacher Joy was, boys quickly learned 2 big lessons that day: pay attention when cooking in the kitchen & you boys made the big mess, so you boys get to clean it up! We then sat and enjoyed a well deserved cup of tea. Every time Nick made rice krispie squares with me at home, he would say, " Mrs Merkley, sticky mess!" Then start laughing.
